A ten frame is a wonderful tool for helping children to understand the numbers 1 to 10 and how they fit together. By filling the grooves with acorns or loose parts, it allows them to see that 5 acorns is more than 3 acorns but less than 8 acorns. It also allows them to visualise the value of each number, setting the stage for working with larger numbers as they get older.
